The story behind

The SCITODATE idea came to life while Mehdi, co-founder, was working on his PhD in physics. During his PhD, Mehdi struggled to find the most relevant scientific articles to keep himself updated. This is a common issue shared between junior scientist, and it demotivates and alienates them from reading articles, which puts a burden on their scientific performance in the long run.

Having this problem Mehdi met Jon Ezeiza and Eneko Pinzolas who shared the same ambition and together they worked for more than a year on SCITODATE to use AI and make a content based recommendation engine for scientific articles. However being scientists they made a system which was doing much more than the article recommendation. They used state of the art NLP techniques to model the scientific language across different fields and automatically extract the research profile of the scientist using their publications.

During that time, in March of 2016, SCITODATE was selected among one of the only 10 startups in the Rockstart Web&Mobile program and started commercializing their technology. However the approach that SCITODATE team has picked was the controversial one, they decided to make the business the driving power of the technology and to build and invest heavily in developing the AI engine further.

So they took a look at the current (at the time) stage of their technology and they realized that they are identifying what research is done in each article and what techniques are being used. It was a breakthrough moment when they realized that their technology can bring so much value to the device manufacturers in the research market, as they are always looking for the researchers that can most benefit from their products. Therefore SCITODATE discovers customers for producers that sell equipment to scientists. Thanks to this new proposition, SCITODATE is growing faster than ever and is able to sustain a rapid development of it's core engine. But this is just the beginning.

The team still remembers their initial ambitions and they now have a clear picture of what they want to achieve. Lead generation will be one of many different services that will be offered. Stay tuned!
